University of Maine Farmington Art Gallery 9/22/2011

The UMF Art Gallery is pleased to announce:
LYNN RICHARDSON
September 8 – October
2
Opening Reception:
Thursday, September 8, 5 to 7 pm
Lynn Richardson’s new work, consisting of very large, very
dynamic sculptural installations made of elegantly crafted high-tech materials,
is an exploration of contemporary commercial imagery and architectural
representation. Richardson examines the conflict between the industrial and
natural worlds in ways that are bold, innovative, and visually entrancing.
Linking her own aesthetic concerns with those of artists as
far-ranging as film maker Michelangelo Antonioni and minimalist sculptor
Donald Judd, Richardson occupies a
highly engaging territory that is both formally seductive and intellectually
rich.
These new pieces examine a changing American landscape in
which “reduction and repetition replace uniqueness and diversity,” and do this in
a beautiful, thought-provoking way that shouldn’t be missed.

Lynn Richardson exhibits her site-specific kinetic installation that
examines the relationship between governments and corporations through
the guise of a trade show. The exhibit focuses on the end products being

viewer that in the "new world" there is only one choice. Richardson, who
received her M.F.A. from the University of Texas (Austin), teaches at
Keene State College. She has exhibited her work throughout Canada, the
United States and Asia, and is the recipient of the prestigious Jean

An Installation by LYNN RICHARDSON

Lowell, MA - The Art Department at UMass Lowell is pleased to present an installation by Canadian born artist, Lynn Richardson, in the University Gallery from November 8 – December 2.
“Inter-Glacial Free Trade Agency” is an exhibition that examines the relationship between governments, corporations and the collateral effects of this association on our physical environment. Richardson focuses on the
complexities of this affiliation and the impact on the natural environment. The installation includes a variety of materials that replicate nature and architectural-type objects, including multiple “iceberg”formations cascading off the walls and spilling onto the floor, a wooden plank fence along the perimeter, representing the 4000-mile shipping route of the Northwest Passage. Adding to the apocalyptic feel, a hypnotic creaking sound generated from multiple “oil pump” apparatuses.

Inter-Glacial Free Trade Agency
Lynn Richardson
Installation

Sculptural installation
Concerned with the continuous exploitation of the physical world by the use of technology, Inter-Glacial Free Trade Agency examines the relationship between governments and corporations through the guise of a trade show. The exhibition focuses on the end products being marketed to the last standing customer; fashionable survival gear for a self induced ice age triggered by global warming.
Lynn Richardson has received a MFA from the University of Texas, specializing in sculpture, and holds a BFA with Honours from the University of Manitoba. Born in Winnipeg, she lives and works in New Hampshire.

Business As Usual 3/25/2008

Harcourt House Arts Center
Business As Usual
Harcourt House Arts Centre is pleased to present Lynn Richardson’s exhibition, Business as Usual, from February 28 to April 5, 2008.
Canadian installation artist and sculptor Lynn Richardson explores the conflict between industry and the natural environment in this re-imagined arctic landscape. Influenced by the political rivalry over the Arctic and its resources, she investigates the presence of corporate and government powers and their physical effect on the landscape. While glaciers are melting faster than predicted, new resources and minerals are becoming readily accessible. She questions whether Canada’s enforcement of sovereignty is indeed a territorial act or if it is to protect interests in oil, minerals and the fishing industry under the contractual agreement of NAFTA. www.lynnrichardson.ca

Alaska Shuffle
Internationally known former Winnipeg based artist Lynn Richardson’s artwork is comprised of images that are based on the technological affects on the northern landscape. Through contextualized sculptural installation she questions the presence of corporate and government influences on the land. Richardson’s work looks specifically at consumerism and resources and their irrevocable effects on the Arctic landscape. An artists talk will accompany the exhibition in order to inform, educate and exchange ideas with students, artists and other professionals. Richardson has been the recipient of numerous awards and a recent Canada Council Research Grant to explore the north. Richardson is exhibiting extensively internationally. This exhibition is part of DefSup's “Urban Infill Art in the Core” projects, Join us for an Opening Reception at the gallery with three new exhibitions featuring national/international artists and tour downtown spaces for art & culture.
